The Preservationists
The Preservationists** – This course is by audition only. This is the premier jazz ensemble at Mission Bay. If music is your calling, this is the class for YOU! Students become professionals in this unique setting by arranging, composing and performing daily. This group has been featured in Japan, Preservation Hall and WWOZ radio in New Orleans, the Sacramento Music Festival, San Diego Jazz Festival, House of Blues, JEN Conference, TEDx San Diego, KUSI News, KSDS Jazz 88.3fm just to name a few. Our students have had the opportunity to work with world renowned musicians like Delfeayo Marsalis, Wendell Brunious, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Treme Brass Band, Vincent Gardner (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra), Gilbert Castellanos, Charles McPherson, Bob Boss, Sue Palmer, Rob Thorsen, Irving Flores, Charlie Chaves, Brad Steinwehe, Joey Carano, Richard Sellers plus many more.

The Mambo Orchestra
Mambo Orchestra** – This course is by audition only. Do you like Salsa and other Latin Dance music?! This is one of the most exciting bands on campus. Students will have the opportunity to learn and perform traditional and dance music from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Latin American countries. Students will learn performance, improvisational techniques and advanced music theory. Travel opportunities include District Music Festivals and other out of school performances.
In 2017 the Mambo Orchestra worked with Grammy Award-Winning conguero Javier Cabanillas of the Pacific Mambo Orchestra!
Swing Choir
Start learning about vocal jazz! Are you interested in singing like Billy Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse? Students will have the opportunity to perform all over the city and record in our in-house recording studio.
This course is open to all 9th -12th graders. Vocalists will perform a variety of vocal jazz literature. Travel opportunities include community events, District Music Festivals and other out of school performances.

This group includes our most advanced string, wind and percussionists. Perform the music of Hayden, Gershwin, Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn plus much more! Travel opportunities include District Music Festivals and Music in the Parks. Audition here-
String Orchestra
This course is open to all 9th-12th graders. Students must have taken at least one year of Orchestra/Strings in order to enroll in this course. This class will focus on performing classical and popular string music in addition to learning basic music theory. Instrumentation: violin, viola, cello and double bass.
Wind Ensemble
This course is open to advanced 9th-12th grade musicians. Students must have band experience to enroll. The class focuses on performing standard concert band literature on wind/percussion instruments in addition to learning basic music theory. Travel opportunities include District Music Festivals and Music in the Parks.
Concert Choir
This course is open to all 9th -12th graders. Students will perform a variety of choir literature.

* Open to the following instruments: oboe, flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, tuba and all percussion.
** Open to the following instruments: saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, violin, vibraphone, bass(jazz), drum set and percussion. Singers are also welcome to audition.
